Around Water

By Paul Ilechko

Swimming pool children
gleam flawless blonde smiles.
Coffee-colored daughter spirals
outward, opens her eyes
to the fearful kiss of wind
as it heaves a sodden front
from somewhere west,
bringing the downpour
that we were promised.
Inside, we thirst for ocean.
The girls together, remembering
the wisdom of salt as it sparkles
like rock, fractured and perfect.
The jug is neither empty nor full.
