Bromide

By Kenneth Pobo

The learned professor
who doesn’t have a cat
says to young writers:
All
  you
    have
      to
        write
          about
            is
              your
                life.
Rubbish! At the very least
you have poppies. And Civil War
battlefields. And how Tang
Dynasty women lived. You have
so much, maybe too much,
the spigot world
can’t be shut off,
you drinking
cold water
before beginning.
