Otter Skeleton

by Brooks

From pelvis to
lifted neck,
a graceful curve.
No limbs or skull.
Ribs arch and meet,
their ends enclosing
a small sweet space.
Each vertebrae extends
into short wings like
some earth bound bird.
The pelvis, long and narrow
with gaping holes, reminds
me of a Shaman's mask,
left in the sand.
