He is the editor of LatineLit, an online magazine that publishes short fiction by and about Latinx people, and his work has appeared in The Fictional Café, Somos en escrito, Bar Bar, Northeast Atlantic, Agapanthus Collective, Night Picnic, The Gay and Lesbian Review, The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), and elsewhere. is a novelist, poet and screenwriter of Mexican heritage. Born in Orange County, she makes her home now in both Los Angeles and the Coachella Valley with her husband. Marlenée earned a Writers’ Certificate in Fiction from UCLA and is the author of Isabela’s Island, Curse of the Ninth, nominated for a James Kirkwood Literary Prize and Agave Blues Honorably Mentioned by the International Latino Book Awards for the Isabel Allende Most Inspirational Fiction Book Award. An excerpt from the novel is also nominated for the Pushcart Prize. Agave Blues was adapted into a novel from her screenplay for which she received awards from the Women’s International Film Festival, the Oaxaca Film Festival, Carmesi International Fest, and the Mexico International Film Festival. Her poetry and short stories can be found in various publications, including SHARK REEF, The Coiled Serpent Anthology, So To Speak, Detour Ahead, What They Leave Behind: A Latinx Anthology, Silver Birch Press, Slow Lightning, Impractical Poetry and Inlandia Institute. She has been honored by the California State Senate for her “extraordinary commitment to free speech and artistic expression, as well as the visibility and well-being of Transgender people. Ryka was the inaugural performer for the first ever Transgender Stage at San Francisco Pride, and has performed in venues including the San Francisco Pride Main Stage, the Columbus National Gay and Lesbian Theatre Festival, the National Queer Arts Festival, and Ladyfest South. Ryka also appears in the recent documentaries “Diagnosing Difference” and “Riot Acts.” She has MFA in Creative Writing from Cornell University and is the recipient of a University Award from the Academy of American Poets. She is a professor of English at Santa Monica College.

received a BFA in Studio Art and Art Education from the University of Texas at Austin and MA in Painting from Texas Woman’s University. She also has studied at the Art Students League in New York City and under such renowned pastel artist as Daniel Green, Raymond Kinstler, David Leffel, and Richard McKinley. Ms Dowd has been painting for 50 years. Her prize-winning paintings hang in homes across the United States, Canada, and England. They have been reproduced in national magazines and exhibited in many regional and national juried shows. She is a current recipient of an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. Ms. Dowd maintains a studio/gallery in the historic Northrup King Building where her art can be seen on 1st Thursdays of each month and by appointment. Ms. Dowd is a retired Art Professor from Navarro College in Texas. There she created the first academic computer art program in Texas. Prior to that she maintained a freelance graphic design business in Washington, DC, and worked as a technical illustrator in North Carolina. After moving to Minneapolis 6 years ago she has worked as adjunct instructor for Minneapolis College of Art and Design and has taught workshops to a variety of people.
