By Glen Stephens
The weather report said rain tonight
but the innocent sky is clear
and shameless stars have burst out everywhere
while the moon discreetly waits behind a hill.
Tomorrow, the sun will rise like a god
toss blazing light across water and land
down through the leaves in the woods
down through the green liquid of the sound.
When the rain comes I’ll run naked out of my house
stand sopping wet on the county road
tell every passer-by who stops to check my sanity
that I’m a crazy fool gone gloriously happy
just to feel my wet body tingle in the breeze
heaven’s water running through my hair
down my chin into my cupped hands and
on into the waiting earth.
